TRIUMPHANT HOMECOMING FOR NATIVE AMERICAN SINGING STAR JIMMY LEE YOUNG!
-
Incredible news! Jimmy Lee Young has exploded with another national award
win, just 5 days after winning 7th Annual Native American Music Awards
" Song/Single of the Year for his song, ' One Voice One Cry!'. This
time Jimmy has been honored by capturing The First Americans in The Arts
Awards' "Outstanding Musical Achievement" Award!
-
Jimmy, is quickly capturing the EYES and EARS of the music industry, and
turning heads with his latest recording, "MAYA". Those living
just north of Los Angeles may have noticed the image of Jimmy splashed
across the pages of local newspapers 2 weeks ago, when Jimmy was nominated
twice at this years NAMA Awards held in Fort Lauderdale last week, at
the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
-
" This is so surreal", said Jimmy with that trademark grin."
My drummer and co-executive producer, Gil Gabaldon II, have been working
all this time, and then BANG! All at once we captured two national awards
in one week. I guess this is it, and it feels great! Gil and I are still
in shock!"
-
And that's not all. After spending the better part of last winter and
early spring recording 'MAYA", the singer/songwriter was also busy
writing the next CD. " I have committed myself to several things.
I want to write a song for each one of the Native American tribes. I want
a piece of all native culture to survive in this music, through the spirit
of one of their own artists. That's why my projects have such an eclectic
mix of songs. Some of them are to this end, others are inspired by my
experiences as a modern native living between two worlds. Others by what
I see and experience all around me in these times we live in. I guess
if you write what you really feel, you are bound to make something that
is interesting and unique."
-
Jimmy will be featured next month on, among others, Two Worlds Radio,
Tampa Florida. The "FAITA Awards' , which have been recently graced
with such artists as Adam Beech, and toiled over by such great names as
actress Lindsey Wagner, will be held March 12, in Beverly Hills. He credits
the efforts of people like Ellen Bello, and Donald Kelly of the Native
American Music Awards, and Shawna Clay of the First Americans In The Arts
awards, for helping to make Native American Music a powerful new genre
in modern music.Highlights of this year's Nammy awards? " Well, I
won, and I got to sing with Crystal Gayle, who my mom really liked. And
they throw an INCREDIBLE afterparty!"
-
" These folks dedicate their lives to what they do.", he adds.
"They have done so much for Native artists, and I know what I am
seeing are Native artists giving that back by telling the world about
their efforts, and drumming up support through wider recognition."
That and the efforts of Daryl Dragon, the "Captain" of classic/current
duo,"The Captain and Tennille.
-
" Daryl heard my first CD, 'APACHE' ,and immediately had me put up
a website that he still keeps up.He also showed me where to put my energies
in pursuing a career. He is incredibly insightful, and has all but fixed
what ails the music industry, with his online concept called Surferzrule!,
which I have also dedicated myself to.( visit www.surferzrule.com ). In
these times of blending genres, and digital downloads, it is the next
logical step in a rapidly evolving music industry."
-
With artists like Felipe Rose of the Village People, Martha Redbone, Micki
Free, and NAMA's female artist of the year, Yolanda Martinez, Jimmy is
taking Native Music to new heights. Inducted into the Native American
Music "Rat Pack" by Felipe Rose, Jimmy with feathers in his
hair, is soaring to new heights.
